Joshua 3:4 ESV
“Yet there shall be a distance between you and it, about 2,000 cubits in length. Do not come near it, in order that you may know the way you shall go, for you have not passed this way before.”

The Israelites were about to cross the Jordan River into the Promised Land. This was not the generation that rebelled and lost out, this was the next generation that wanted the Promises of God. Joshua sent the ark across first and as the priests entered ankle deep in the water, the water stood up far enough back so that they all could cross quickly.

Joshua told the Israelites that followed the priests to stay back about a half of a mile so that they could see the way that he wanted them to go. He then tells the Israelites, “for you have not passed this way before.”

I take this phrase not just as a matter of command but also figuratively. This was a young generation, they were excited and uncertain about the next seven years of conquest in the promised land.

They had seen the mistakes of the last generation and the doubt that cost them everything.

Now this generation was fresh, clean spiritually and heading in a new chapter of their lives. The next fourteen years they would see miracles they never thought possible.

Every day can be like that for us. Today could hold promises fulfilled, blessings beyond measure and miracles that will change our lives because every day is a time and placed where we have never been before.

Prayer:
Father, let me face each day with expectancy of Your blessings and Your promises. Let me be as a child and wait with wide eyed wonder of what You are going to do next in my life.
