Luke 24:30-32 ESV

“When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them.  And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight.  They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?”

If you know this story in Luke, you would know that two confused men had been in the company of Jesus but after He was crucified and resurrected, they went home thinking all hope was gone. As they walked in sorrow, Jesus walked up behind them and asked why they were so sad. (They did not recognize Jesus at this time.)

After admitting to Jesus that they had gave up on the dream of being with the Messiah, (Supposing that He was not the Messiah because of His death) Jesus set them straight by telling them the true purpose of the Messiah using Old Testament scriptures.

Being totally captivated by Jesus’s words, they asked Him to stay with them at their house. As Jesus sat at the table at the meal time, he took the bread and broke it and handed a piece to each. Immediately their eyes were opened, they had seen this many times in His company. Jesus vanished before their eyes and they were both shocked and amazed. They said to each other, “didn’t our hearts burn within us as He spoke to us on the road.”

How many times have we given up on Jesus, because our plans were not His plans? How many times has He spoken to us words of comfort and life and we did not hear? How many times has He been in our presence and we did not recognize Him?

Prayer:

Father, forgive me for pressing my own agenda, when I should have been following Yours.
