Joshua 5: 13-14 ESV
“When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing before him with his drawn sword in his hand. And Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our adversaries?”  And he said, “No; but I am the commander of the army of the Lord. Now I have come.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped…”

This angelic figure appeared to Joshua for a divine purpose. Joshua was the new leader of the whole camp of Israelites, some think possibly a million or more plus he was the leader of the army of Israel.

Now, the army of Israel were about to pursue a campaign that they had never done before. This was the promised land, but at the first entry of the promised land there was a test. Joshua was not proven yet, so at this moment he needed not a sign but an encouragement.

The angelic figure calls himself the Commander of the Lord’s army. When Joshua asked if he was for him or against him the commander said “no” or neither. That’s because God’s army is a spiritual army that does as He commands them to do.

His purpose was not to fight in this physical battle but to encourage Joshua for his hour of need. You may not see God’s angel’s or Michael or Gabriel the most famous angels but they are there. They are there to encouraging you at all times and to fight the forces of evil.

Prayer:
Father, every day is a battle but I will never fight it alone, you are there with me. Thank you for your ministering angel’s that encourage me for the fight.
