Proverbs 28:13 ESV
“Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.”

In the New Testament, a husband and wife got caught up in excitement of the new Christian movement, Everyone was feeling generous so they decided they would feel generous as well, but they had devised a plan to sell their land and donate only part of the money and they would keep back part of it for themselves.

That wouldn’t have been a problem except they lied and said that the amount that they donated to the church was the full amount of the sale. Not all judgement is this extreme but both husband and wife died after confirming the lie to Peter. “Those who conseal a matter will not prosper.” Concealing a transgression is the same as lying, but a confession assures forgiveness.

In this passage, (Luke 18), a tax collector felt remorse and confessed his sins. “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ I tell you that this man…went home justified before God. (Luke 18:13-14)

Prayer:
Father, never let me live with a lie but teach me true repentance!
