Comforted to Comfort

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 ESV
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

Life is difficult in the natural, but it looks and feels different as we walk in the spirit. When tragedy strikes, we are typically rocked back on our heels. It takes a while to regain composure. Some of you know this all too well, you have experienced these times in your own lives.

The one thing I know is that God has given us His Holy Spirit to come along by our side and gives us comfort and peace. The Holy Spirit is said to be the paraclete (from Greek paraklētos ‘called in aid’, from para- ‘alongside’ + klētos (from kalein ‘to call’).

Paul says that the Holy Sirit, “comforts us in all our affliction…” But the work does not stop there, he continues with, “so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

A few years ago, I led a gentleman to the Lord just hours before he passed. His wife had requested me to come and talk to him. I did and he believed in God long ago, but never gave his life to Christ. That day he did.

A year later after many phone calls and texts messages with his wife, she still was not completely comforted. I told her what I am telling you this morning. Find someone who needs comfort and peace and give it to them. In this, you too will find the peace that you are looking for.

Prayer:
Father, thank you that You bring along the Holy Spirit to be our comforter and helper to come along side of us and bring us comfort in our hours of need. Help us then to turn and offer comfort and peace to those who are suffering and hurting. In Your name Lord Jesus I ask, Amen!
