Do Not Fear or Be Shocked

Deuteronomy 31:8
“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

These were some of Moses last words of instructions to a new generation of the children of Israel. These men and women and children had watched their parents and grandparents make fatal choices, deadly mistakes. Mistakes that not only ultimately took their lives, but these mistakes also took their joy and true freedom.

That older generation was delivered from slavery, but slavery never left their mentality. They stayed in bondage in their minds for forty years after their deliverance. This new generation had seen the forty years of struggle in the desert as children, now they were given a new lease on life, so to speak.

Moses was getting them ready for a true, righteous inheritance and blessings that they had never known was possible. Moses’s goal was to get this next generation ready to follow God, unlike their parents and grandparents did. They would see God in might and power. God was about to open up a door of blessings that they never knew was possible.

So, in his last speech to them he told this generation that the Lord would go before them, trust Him. He told them that God would be with them and He would be their closest companion. He told them not to fear anything that they were about to see, or anyone that would stand in their way. He told them not to be astonished or in fright, God would give them an inheritance that would amaze them.

For us, the coming days may look scary, this world is turned upside down. But we as his children have been given perfect peace that calms us from the inside. Do not fear or be shocked at what is happening in the world. God is going before us, He will fight our battles, cast your cares on Him, He cares for us.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, we need you now more than ever. Give us clear directions for the days, weeks, and months ahead of us. We look to You the Author and Finisher of our faith. Our hope and trust are in You! We ask in the name of the Prince of Peace, Amen!
