Walking with God

Genesis 3:8a
“And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day…”

I woke up this morning singing in my head the old hymn “In the Garden.” The second verse and the chorus goes like this:

“He speaks, and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet, the birds hush their singing
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing

And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known.”

The passage does not exactly say that God spent the evenings walking and talking with Adam, but we do know that Adam recognized the sound of God walking in the garden. Adam and God had a special relationship, he was God’s first human. We can only imagine that this walk with God was a regular accurance, since we are God’s greatest creation.

The important aspect of this time is that Adam didn’t ask for this relationship and time, God desired that time. God spent time with Adam talking and walking. The same holds true with you and me, He desires a daily walk with us. Just a simple conversation. Some asking for things, some just telling God how we feel, and pausing long enough for us to hear what God is telling us.

Some time where we tell God how much we love and appreciate Him, some time to hear and sense how much He loves us and appreciates us, and desires a closer relationship with Him. Take the time today to walk with God. That’s what He wanted when He created man, and God is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Prayer:
Thank you Father, for a close relationship where You desire to speak to me and I desire to speak to You. It’s not a forced time, it’s a time of leasure and pleasure. Walk with me Lord God today, Amen!
