Open Minded to the Truth

Acts 17:11-12 NLT
“And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.  As a result, many Jews believed, as did many of the prominent Greek women and men.”

Open minded in this passage is speaking of people that are open minded to the truth. They listened to the truth, and accepted it but they took it a step further. They searched the scriptures to see if what they heard was in fact the truth.

They were not gullible, they didn’t sit under Paul and Silas teachings just soaking in what was said. They wanted to know for themselves everything that they heard about this Jesus was true from the Old Testament. There are a LOT of Scriptures in the Old Testament that point to Jesus.

Being open minded and being willing to do the research to seek the truth takes wisdom, knowledge and understanding. That is open mindedness of what God offers in His word. It takes determination and a willingness to perceive the truth.

Embellishment to make a scripture say what you want it to say has no place in a message that people are listening to. When you hear a message at church or on the radio, don’t just take it for face value, look it up. See if what the person is saying is the truth. Hold the leaders accountable to the truth.

Prayer:
Father, there is a lot of things going on in the world, keep me mind focused on You and the integrity of Your word. Your word is truth and life, hope and power, Your word will sustain me and keep me on track. I will not rely in just what I hear but I will search Your scriptures where I will find the truth!
