Give it to Jesus

Philippians 4: 6-8 ESV
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Anxiety disorder effects 40 million Americans according the National Mental Health Society. Anxiety disorder is serious and must be addressed by a professional. Paul is not necessarily addressing anxiety disorder but instead worrying about things we encounter on a day to day basis.

Most of us are anxious over a lot of things that we encounter on a daily basis. Paul said for us to be anxious for nothing but when we start to feel anxious we must immediately give our concerns to God. Again, Paul is not addressing anxiety disorder but becoming preoccupied about things we encounter in a troubled world.

Paul gives us a promise if we hand our concerns immediately to God, he said, “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” That is where everyone wants to be, in perfect peace. And not just a peace that is lack of aggression or war, this peace only comes to those who belong to God.

The next time you become troubled about some bad news or tough decisions or even problems that have not even happened yet, give it to God and take from Him His perfect peace.

Prayer:
Lord, troubles are at every turn. Help me not to fret, worry or be preoccupied with things that have not even happened yet or things beyond my control. Tomorrow has its own set of problems, help me to take one day at a time and not sweat the things that will be coming.
