Psalms 119:36-37 ESV

“Incline my heart to your testimonies; and not to selfish gain! Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways.”

This world is full of distractions of every kind. Not all distractions are bad unless they keep us from God and His word. David asks God to keep him from selfish gain. Unfortunately, David had some areas in his life where selfish gain took precedents in his walk with God and it cost him dearly.

Learn from David, selfish gain and worthless things, even if we think they are not worthless, will cloud our judgment and keep us from God’s perfect will. Pray this prayer of David from the Amplified Bible; “Incline my heart to Your testimonies And not to dishonest gain and envy. Turn my eyes away from vanity [all those worldly, meaningless things that distract—let Your priorities be mine], And restore me [with renewed energy] in Your ways.”
