Enamored by His Presence

Philippians 3:13-14 ESV
“Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do:  forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

I was listening to a minister the other day that was saying that God has great things instore for his listeners; favor, promotions, good breaks, and blessings untold. It almost sounded too good to be true, but it is true. In a close relationship with God, all things are possible.

I thought for a moment about what was said. It was great news for people hoping for something different. There is nothing wrong with instilling hope because we serve a God that does want to bless us lavishly. The message was a good message, God does want to give us bountiful blessings, but that will come as we get closer to Him.

I didn’t grow up knowing God this way, I was taught to be afraid of God, because He was watching everything that we do. Consequently, most of us kids in the church got re-saved every Sunday night because we were afraid of being sent to hell. But that is not the God that I know now. The God that I know now does want to do great things for us, things that we have not seen in the past. What’s the catch?

What God wants is a deep abiding relationship with us. The kind of relationship where we get up in the morning and we talk with God and He talks to us. We walk with Him in the day, or meditate on His word, we commune with God, love on God. God desires a relationship with us where He is on our mind constantly.

The kind of relationship where we want to please Him. A kind of relationship where we don’t really want the same things that we used to want. Where we now want the things that will lead us to Him, where we go higher with Him. God longs for a deep abiding relationship with His children. Yes, He does want to lavishly bless us, but He also wants us to be enamored by His presence, enjoy Him, trust Him and rely on Him.

Prayer:
Lord, I pray we cultivate the type of relationship that when You call, we answer, because when we call, You always answer, always! I pray we wake up, desiring to be in Your presence. In Your name Lord, Amen!
