I Told You So

Luke 24:44-45 NLT
“Then he said, ‘When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.”  Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.

Explanation:
First, Jesus was upfront with the disciples about his mission, the designed plan according to prophecies. They just tuned a lot out because it didn’t fit into their ideals of who the Messiah would be.

Second, the first 5 books of the Old Testament are called collectively as the Torah. Torah means teaching, direction, guidance and law. Some call these books the Pentateuch, which means basically, the five. Moses is believed to be the author of these 5 books and they are considered the most important books of Jewish scholars and leaders of the Jewish faith.

Jesus told His disciples that, “…everything written about Me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.” In other words, the whole Old Testament prophesies about Jesus, from Genesis to Malachi. Unfortunately most of the Jewish Rabbi’s and Priests did not read all the ancient scrolls and even today most skip around all the prophecies about the Messiah.

Then Jesus did something miraculous; He opened up the disciples understanding of the Scriptures. It is obvious that these 11 disciples needed to have more than just a working knowledge of the Scriptures. After all Jesus gave them the ability to know, understand and articulate the ancient scriptures for a reason. Peter, in a matter of days, will give a message on the day of Pentecost that will include prophecies and quotes from scriptures and his message will bring thousands in one day to Christ.

If it was important for these guys to have understanding, to take the message to the world, then it is important for us to know the Old and New Testament. Get into the Word, know it and know it well, we have a world to reach for Jesus.

Prayer:
Lord, open up our hearts and minds to Your word, to know Your words well. Open up our understanding that we may see, know and be able to clearly guide lives and hearts through Your words.

Give us the ability to articulate Your words effectively to bring souls to Jesus Christ as their Savior. In Your name Lord, Amen!
