Desecration of God’s House

Matthew 21:12-13
“And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and He overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.”

On Monday, after Jesus’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, He entered into the outer courts of the temple. The Court of the Gentiles, the only place where Gentiles were allowed to go and pray at the temple. Merchants were allowed to be in this court, but the merchants were in business with the priests and they were extorting the people.

Jesus drove out the merchants, and the money changers. The money changers were also cheating the people who needed to exchange for the money used in Jerusalem. All these merchants and money changers were cooperating with the priests and cheating the visitors to Jerusalem. They were forcing them to purchase approved sacrificial animals and currencies at high prices.

This was the second time that Jesus drove out the merchants at the temple. The first time was in the beginning of His ministry. My question today would be; if Jesus came into our churches today and observed all that was going on in the day to day operation of the church business, would He approve or drive out those who were mishandling God’s money in God’s house?

Prayer:
Lord, Your Father’s house is the house of prayer, do not allow the churches, denominations or those in charge dishonor You! In Your name Lord, Amen!
