To Be Like Jesus

1 John 3:2 ESV
“Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.”

The goal for our lives, in God’s eyes, is for us to be like His Son Jesus. That, of course, does not mean that we will not be ourselves with distinct characteristics. God implanted those things, and those things are useful in the light of His glory. Just as the characteristics of the writers of the Bible were used in their writings. Our characteristics will bring glory to God in some way or fashion here on earth and in heaven.

Even in heaven God will use our characteristics to blend with all that will happen and with all who will be in heaven. We do not know exactly what form we will take on, but we will be known for who we are.

Paul said, “For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.” (1 Corinthians 13:12) When Jesus appears, we will be like Him. That means we will take on His glory. Not absorbed in His glory, a reflection of His glory.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I want to be a reflection of Your glory on earth, but glorified with You in heaven. My curiosity is not so great of what I will be in heaven, but my preoccupation is of what I can be here on earth as a reflection of Your glory. In Your name Lord Jesus I ask, Amen!
