Family of God

Matthew 12:46-50 ESV
“While he was still speaking to the people, behold, His mother and His brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him.  But he replied to the man who told him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

Life isn’t always simple when it comes to family. Some in our families have disappointed us, and some have embarrassed us. Then some in our families make us very proud, some in our families give us warmth and we feel their love every day. Whatever family has done or not done, said, or not said, they are still family.

In this prime example of the family of God, Jesus says, “For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” Jesus is not permanently rejecting His mother, or His brothers. Jesus brings clarity to His point in the following verse (Matthew 12:50). “Whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother, and sister, and mother.’

When we believe in Him, and receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, and we follow Him, we are His family. He will never leave us or forsake us. He takes pride in every one of us, calling us His brothers and sisters.

No matter what our situation was in our family growing up or our family now, feel the joy and pride of being a part of God’s family!

Prayer:
Thank You Lord for accepting us in Your family. We feel Your love and nurture. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
