Receiving God’s Word Responsibly

1 Thessalonians 2:13 NLT
“Therefore, we never stop thanking God that when you received his message from us, you didn’t think of our words as mere human ideas. You accepted what we said as the very word of God—which, of course, it is. And this word continues to work in you who believe.”

Paul earnestly believed and taught others that God had spoken to man and that man had recorded this word of God. For those who do not truly believe in God, it doesn’t seem plausable that what we call the Word of God is truly God’s words.

Their argument is that man wrote the Bible and it was the discretion of man to what they wrote down. But, I firmly believe 2 Timothy 3:16 NKJV, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God…” And also, 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 ESV, “Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.”

The truths that men received from God is interpreted by the Holy Spirit. The only human element involved is style and character. So, what do we say about every time we hear the preacher on Sunday morning? Or we listen to the minister on the TV or radio? We listen, but we perceive with our spirit and check what was said against the Word of God. The people in Thessalonica did not have the printed word to go by as a guide but we do.

Prayer:
Father, if I stay in Your Holy Spirit inspired word, I can know if what I’m hearing is true and accurate. Help me to be responsible and stay in your word continually, then I will know what is right, accurate and true.
