Open My Eyes Lord

Psalms 119:18 ESV
“Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.”

Law- it’s parent verb means to teach or direct. So, the law is both laws and revelations or discoveries. I know this prayer of David’s sounds very simple, but to me it speaks volumes, let me explain: When I was a child we were taught to read the Bible every day. So I did what I was told, but I didn’t understand what I was reading except the Bible stories. Basically I was reading for information, but even that was clouded because of interpretation and the fact that we were still reading from the King James Version. I would get lost in the Old English language.

When I was 19 and started getting more involved and I started reading the NASB version and the NIV, it made sense. After an amazing encounter with God, I began to understand truths and deep meanings in the Bible. At that point of my life I began teaching. So, I was no longer reading for information, at that point I was reading for revelation.

Now when I read the Bible I expect to find the nuggets of gold of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, on the pages of the Bible. So to pray; “Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law,” makes a lot of sense to me.

Prayer:
Lord, Open my eyes today to see the hidden truths in Your Word. Open my eyes and let me see You on every page, on every sentence, on every letter.
