Matthew 18:21-22 Message
“…Master, how many times do I forgive a brother or sister who hurts me? Seven?”

Jesus replied, “Seven! Hardly. Try seventy times seven.” I’m not a big fan of the Message translation but this version of this scripture really brings out the attitude of what Jesus wants of us in the subject of forgiveness.

Forgiveness is not always easy but it is necessary if we want to grow in Christ. Forgiveness is not always going to be accepted, but when we have done our part we reap the reward.

Forgiveness will not always resolve the issue or repair a relationship but we show our true nature of Christ when we forgive unconditionally. Forgiveness may not make us feel better instantaneously but it will have lasting affects on our Spirit and nature.

Sometimes it seems like we forgive for the same bad habits over and over again, so we rationalize and stand in judgment to condemn the person or the situation to stop the enabling. We forget how many times God has forgiven us and never condemned us.

Prayer:
Father You have always forgiven me unconditionally. Make me more like You!
