Matthew 4:19 ESV
“And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

The disciples had jobs, families, lives. We always seem to think these guys were just sitting around waiting for something to happen, but they were no different from us. They were living their lives and doing their job under the scrutiny of a hostile government. A government that was ready and willing to punish and imprison over the slightest offense.

These guys were not leaders in the temple, nor were they leaders of the community. They were simple people living normal lives under some of the worst conditions. Then a long came this man speaking first hand truths about God. He was different from the religious right. He spoke simply but profoundly.

Following this man Jesus didn’t make sense but they felt something in their spirit say go! He told them they would be fishers of men, I’m not sure if they knew what that meant, but eventually under the anointing of the Holy Spirit they opened their mouths and words of life came out through them that changed the world forever.

You and I may be the same, we may feel like we can’t do what they did, but we can. If we seek the lost, all we have to do is catch them, so to speak, the Master will clean them up.

Prayer:
Father, open my heart, open my eyes because you have already sent me to go, I just need to be about the Father’s business, fishing for men and women!
